16 Oct Just a heart beat away
The story of heart disease and its impact are well documented. Heart attacks happen and they are usually deadly. However, even with a plethora of knowledge on the disease we remain challenged to mitigate the risks surrounding this condition.
- Twenty-five percent (25%) of those who experience a heart attack have shown none of the traditional risk factors such as High BP, smoking and high cholesterol. *
- Cardiovascular disease accounts for 42,300 deaths per year and that represents 23 % of all deaths in Australia.
- There is one death every 12 minutes OR 115 deaths/day.
Tragically the first sign of heart disease can be death. So, to manage the overall risk one needs to identify where you may be on the risk spectrum. Accept that one cannot control all variables but committing to manage those risk factors that can be managed offers the best chance to mitigate your risk.
- The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare suggests in 2023/2024 cardiovascular disease cost Australian $16.9 billion AUD.
- There is a lifelong cost of $140,900 per person.
- Our heart health data indicates that 30% of workers are high risk. 34% are at low risk. And 35% at increased risk. The risk can be obvious. The intervention not so.
- One client whom we have worked with over several years has seen a decrease in their heart health risk from 35% to 10% of their employees. A remarkable outcome.
As part of looking at the risk profile of healthy hearts in the workplace we also obtain data on nine (9) different lifestyle factors. Combining these lifestyle elements with matters such as sleep quality and quantity, depression, anxiety and stress levels allows us to present a more accurate overall risk profile on the workforce. It also allows us to indicate what risk factors need to be worked on to reduce the overall exposure of your business and those of your employees.
Knowing what cardiovascular risk factors to address and implementing interventions to mitigate these risks can have significant impact on the risk profile of the individual and your business.
Heart Disease involves many elements. Identifying and tracking a cluster of risk factors gives everyone a better chance of mitigating the impact of this deadly disease.
Heart health future must start with obtaining risk factor data. If you wish to see what level of risk your employees present, then contact us.
