Energy Profile

Are You Heading for an Energy Crisis?

Please tick the statements below that are true for you.

Body
I do not regularly get at least seven to eight hours sleep and often wake up feeling tired.
I frequently skip breakfast or I settle for something that is not nutritious.
I do not work out enough (cardiovascular and strength sessions).
I do not take regular breaks during the day to truly renew and recharge, or I often eat lunch at my desk, if I eat at all.
Emotions
I frequently find myself feeling irritable, impatient and anxious at work, especially when work is demanding.
I do not have enough time with my family and loved ones, and when I’m with them I am not always really with them.
I have too little time for the activities that I most deeply enjoy.
I do not stop frequently enough to express my appreciation to others or to savour my accomplishments and blessings.
Mind
I have difficulty focusing on one thing at a time and I am easily distracted during the day especially by email.
I spend much of my day reacting to immediate crises and demands rather than focus on activities with long term value and high leverage.
I do not take enough time for reflections, strategy development and creative thinking.
I work in the evenings or on the weekends and almost never take an email free holiday.
Spirit
I do not spend enough time at work doing what I do best and what I enjoy most.
There are significant gaps between what I say is most important to me in my life and how I actually allocate my time and energy.
My decisions at work are more often influenced by external demands than by a strong clear sense of my own purpose.
I do not invest enough time and energy in making a positive difference to others or to the world.

Manage Your Energy… Not your time

The core problem with working longer hours is that time is a finite resource. Energy on the other hand is a different story – it is renewable.

Energy comes from four (4) areas in humans

  1. Body
  2. Emotions
  3. Mind
  4. Spirit

To recharge themselves individuals need to recognise the costs of energy-sapping behaviours and then take responsibility to change them, regardless of the circumstances they are facing. Click here to find out more.
